LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) has gained significant traction in the realm of sensor applications, offering a robust and energy-efficient solution for the Internet of Things (IoT). One of its key advantages lies in its ability to facilitate communication over long distances with minimal power consumption. This makes it particularly well-suited for scenarios where sensors need to transmit data wirelessly while maintaining extended battery life, such as in agriculture for soil moisture monitoring or smart cities for environmental sensing.

In addition to its long-range capabilities, LoRaWAN operates in the unlicensed spectrum, allowing for cost-effective deployment of sensor networks. This makes it an appealing choice for industries seeking scalable solutions for large-scale sensor deployments. The network architecture of LoRaWAN enables seamless connectivity for numerous sensors, providing a versatile platform for diverse applications ranging from industrial monitoring to healthcare, contributing to the evolution of efficient and interconnected IoT ecosystems.

LoRaWAN also provides multiple value propositions for the Internet of Things. In particular, because of it’s long range and low power, LoRaWAN IoT sensors can be deployed in s star topology (hub and spoke) such that the only component that requires third party connectivity is the LoRaWAN gateway itself. For retail establishments, it means access to hundreds of LoRaWAN sensors, but only the LoRaWAN gateway requires 4G/5G/Ethernet connectivity at a single retail location. For Internet of Battlefield Things (IoBT) use cases, LoRaWAN allows unattended ground sensors and more to terminate at a mobile Command and Control function without the need for backhaul.

Blueforce is proud to announce our new LoraWAN Plugin for BlueforceEDGE with initial support for Tektelic LoRaWAN gateways. Now available to beta testers, hundreds of low cost sensors enter the Blueforce ecosystem and include:

  • Trackers (human and asset)
  • Panic Buttons
  • Water and Moisture
  • Motion
  • GForce
  • Reed Switches
  • Light Detection
  • Temp and Humidity
  • Motion PIR
  • Air Quality
  • CO and gases
  • Soil Moisture
  • Body Temp, respiration, heart rate, SPO2
  • Cold Chain: Temp and Humidity (restaurant, pharma)

As with our other plugins, the new LoRaWAN Plugin for BlueforceEDGE is enabled with our Inter-Process Messaging interface allowing dissimilar sensors (from different manufacturers) to fuse, cue, and orchestrate based on any range of business rules and/or AI actions. The LoRaWAN Plugin for BlueforceEDGE is now available for Beta testers. For more information, please send a note to info@blueforcedev.com or call us at +1 866-960-0204.
